Kingdoms

You see we were living in a fairytale.

A fantasy of all.

Beautiful once—

but the happy ending?

Temporary and false.

We no longer had each other.

I was a princess;

wearing dresses made out of paper

and crowns carved out of plastic.

You were my prince

You took my heart like a knight in shining armor

But your armor was rusty and old-

No love was found in that steel suit of yours.

You pretended to be my prince—

just as I was just a pretend princess.

We were both playing pretend,

but this love I had for our kingdom,

was true. And yours;

was not.

Now I can only watch like a damsel in distress,

as our kingdom slowly falls apart.
